About Bahman Baktiari
Bahman Baktiari serves as Executive Director of the International Foundation for
Civil Society: The Middle East & North Africa (MENA). In this capacity, Mr.
Baktiari supervises all aspects of the growing not-for-profit organization.
Headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah, MENA concentrates its work on the
internal and external factors involved within the massive social, political, and
economic shifts currently taking place in North Africa and the Middle East.
Bahman Baktiari has occupied this position since 2011. Concurrently, he also
participates as a member in the Working Group on Iran through The United States
Institute for Peace (USIP).
Prior to assuming his present post with MENA,
Bahman Baktiari acted as Director of the University of Utah's Middle East
Center. He filled this role between July 2009 and July 2011. From fall 2000 to
June 2009, Mr. Baktiari held positions of increasing responsibility through the
University of Maine, starting as Director of the New England school's
International Affairs Program. Following this, he transitioned to the role of
Director of the William S. Cohen Center for International Policy & Commerce,
where he operated between 2006 and 2008. Mr. Baktiari then assumed the position
of Director of the School of Policy and International Affairs (SPIA), where he
remained until 2009.
Bahman Baktiari graduated from the University of
Virginia in 1984 with a PhD in Government. Prior to receiving his doctorate, Mr.
Baktiari earned an MA in Foreign Affairs, also through the Charlottesville
school. He additionally holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Denver.
Completing undergraduate emphases in both philosophy and political science, he
graduated from the University of Denver in 1979. Widely published today, he
continues to present his work at symposia and conferences around the country.
Bahman Baktiari also receives regular invitations to be interviewed by an array
of television, radio, and print media sources.
